During the beginning on 2019, I interned on-set with the Hallmark movie, True Love Blooms (2019) in St. Petersburg, FL. At the time, everybody referred to it as Garden Party, due to publicity reasons. I met notable people such as Dir. Matthew Diamond and Sara Rue.
After a brief interview process, I was contacted by the Props Master, Alexandra Tibbs, about a props intern position. I was delightfully surprised they called me back, because at the time, I had a very busy schedule as a full-time student and working part-time at Aerial Innovations. I didn’t have a set schedule for working with Garden Party, but I would come in at least once a week, sometimes twice, to assist wherever I could. As the props intern, I was originally given small jobs dealing with the props. For example, I had to dirty some gardening gloves, create protest posters (see below!!!) and add signatures to a make-believe waitlist featuring in the movie. |
However, as I continued to volunteer my time, I quickly felt bored of shadowing people and not being helpful, so I decided to be proactive and offer my talents wherever I could. This led to more on-set involvement: planting flowers, moving potted plants, scattering mulch, taping over discrepancies in the background, taping posters, and moving pieces on set.
I later found out, however, that as an intern, I wasn’t technically supposed to be on set itself, but nobody really cared because I was helpful. I found this out during a break where I met another intern who was complaining about how being a producer's intern was boring; she told me that interns weren't allowed on-set due to Union rules.
However, due to my pro-activeness, I made some nice contacts such as Jen Burkley and Chris Rich, who later contacted me for Production Assistant jobs for potential tv shows Hick (An independent series) and New Bids on the Block (HGTV).
